Official: Brussels, Moscow can solve WTO case in consultations
BRUSSELS, Aug 24 (PRIME) -- The European Commission hopes to solve a dispute with Russia over restrictions on supplies of products to the state companies at the stage of consultations in the World Trade Organization (WTO), a European Commission representative told PRIME on Tuesday.
"The consultations take place within 60 days from the moment of receipt of the request, on July 22. The European Commission hopes to find a solution during these consultations, ensuring that Russia's attitude to the goods and services imported by non-Russian suppliers conform with the WTO liabilities," the official said.
The European Commission sent a claim to the WTO on July 19, saying that Russia has been extending its imports replacement mechanism since 2015, including a rising number of prohibitions. The measures are targeted at imports replacement in procurements of parastatal companies and investment projects financed by the government.
